Pierre Freysinger

Pierre Freysinger is the IT and UX manager at All Cool. He maintains the site's infrastructure, the product database and the integrations with our partners, and above all makes sure navigation stays simple despite the sheer number of technical spec sheets. Trained in computer science in Strasbourg and then in human-computer interaction, he wears the fairly rare double hat of developer and interface designer. That training shapes his whole approach to work: a website, like an appliance, is judged as much by its ergonomics as by what's under the hood.

That same ergonomist's eye is what naturally made him the team's fridge tester. A mini fridge or a wine cabinet is now controlled as much through a screen or an app as through a simple dial, so Pierre puts every model through its paces on the accuracy of the temperature display, the readability of the settings in the middle of the night, and the logic, or lack of logic, of the control menus. For him, the comparison is more than a figure of speech: he built a homemade watercooling loop to cool his own servers, which leaves him particularly well placed to judge the quality of a compressor or a heat sink. He is not shy about taking apart an uncooperative unit to check how much care went into its internal components.

On best-batteries.com, All Cool's sister site devoted to batteries and portable power, Pierre holds a comparable IT and UX role, where he focuses instead on charging standards and connector issues. The two roles feed into each other: the same attention to detail that drives him to hunt down a poorly designed menu on a fridge also leads him, on the other site, to pick apart a badly implemented USB-C port.

Single and a self-confessed geek, Pierre spends his evenings on home electronics projects built around Raspberry Pi and Arduino, when he is not escaping into a video game or a tabletop role-playing session. His German, inherited from Alsatian roots, lets him easily follow technical documentation and manufacturers from Central Europe. True to form, he often starts a test by switching off every unnecessary beep on a device: for him, a good product should still make sense once stripped of its sound gimmicks.
