An insulated bottle, generally made from vacuum-insulated double-wall stainless steel, isolates its contents from outside temperature thanks to a vacuum gap between the two metal walls, a physical principle close to a classic thermos flask. This build lets it keep a drink cold or hot for several hours, with no condensation on the outside of the bottle unlike a classic plastic or glass bottle.

The first thing to compare is the thermal runtime claimed by the manufacturer, generally stated separately for cold (24 hours or more on premium models) and hot (12 hours or more), cold almost always lasting longer than hot in the same bottle due to the laws of physics. These figures, measured under optimal conditions, vary in real use depending on ambient temperature and how often the lid is opened.

The second point to know is capacity, chosen based on intended use: 350 to 500ml for light everyday use (office, short commute), 700ml to 1 litre for sport or a full day without a refill, and beyond for intensive use or sharing between several people.
