For a desk or a small room, a table fan or a mini USB fan is more than enough. For a whole living room (lounge, spacious bedroom), choose a more powerful pedestal or tower fan. A ceiling fan is ideal as a permanent installation, especially in a room where you want discreet air movement all year round.

No: a fan does not lower the room's temperature, it simply moves the air, which speeds up the evaporation of sweat and creates a feeling of coolness. For an actual temperature drop, look at an air conditioner or an evaporative air cooler, available in our Air Conditioners category.
