The best fans

Mini USB fans, table fans, tower/pedestal fans and ceiling fans: our selection to keep the air moving from the first hot days.

The fan remains the simplest, cheapest and most eco-friendly way to fight everyday heat. Unlike an air conditioner, it only draws a few dozen watts and needs no installation.
We have sorted our selection into several families: mini portable fans (USB or battery-powered, for the desk or on the go), classic table fans, tower or pedestal fans (more powerful, for cooling a whole room) and ceiling fans (for discreet, permanent air movement). For a more active cooling effect combined with water, head over to our Misters category.

MyCarbon Ventilateur de table avec télécommande

Check price and availability (34)

A remote-controlled table fan with 360° 3D oscillation and automatic ECO mode: adjustable comfort without leaving the sofa.

  • Airflow : Up to 1800 m³/h in Turbo boost mode
  • Speeds : 4 speeds + ECO, night, and normal modes
  • Oscillation : 360° 3D oscillation (horizontal and vertical)
  • Remote control, 3D oscillation, and automatic ECO mode
The MyCarbon fan stands out with its included remote control, which lets you change speed or set a shutoff timer without moving. Several fan modes (normal, ECO, night) and 360° 3D oscillation make for precise adjustment, for comfortable use in a living room, bedroom, or office up to 30 m².
With a 4.6/5 rating across more than 4,500 reviews, the MyCarbon ranks among the best-rated table fans in our lineup, and hands-on use confirms that reputation. The 360° remote genuinely changes day-to-day use: no more getting up to adjust the speed or set the timer before sleep. ECO mode, which automatically adjusts intensity to the ambient temperature, delivers on its promise and avoids running the unit at full power all night. In night mode specifically, the noise level stays discreet, well suited to a bedroom. The 3D oscillation, both horizontal and vertical, covers a much wider area than a simple side-to-side sweep and can cool several people in the same room. The main drawback concerns Turbo mode, noticeably louder than the other settings, best kept for heat spikes rather than extended evening use. The plastic base also feels less premium than on pricier motor models, though this doesn't affect day-to-day stability. For its price, a very good set of features.

III - Tower / pedestal fan

More powerful and taller, tower and pedestal fans move a large volume of air and suit entire living rooms, often with a remote control and a timer.

Dyson AM07

Check price and availability (22)

Amplified, smoothed airflow up to 500 liters per second, with not a single blade in sight: Dyson's tower fan for a design-conscious living room.

  • Airflow : 500 liters/second (≈1800 m³/h) at maximum setting
  • Height : About 1 m
  • Weight : About 2.85 kg
  • Air Multiplier technology: smooth airflow, no exposed blades
The Dyson AM07 uses the brand's Air Multiplier technology: a bladeless ring amplifies and smooths air drawn in at the base for a continuous, steady flow. Supplied with a remote control, 10 speeds, 70° oscillation, and a timer, it stands out for its sleek design and safe use, particularly for families with young children.
The Dyson AM07 holds a special place in our tower fan lineup: it's the one that impresses the most, and often prompts questions from visitors surprised by the absence of blades. In use, the airflow amplified by Air Multiplier technology is genuinely smoother than a classic fan, without the pulsing of a traditional grille. The 70° oscillation covers a medium-sized living room well, and the magnetic remote, which stores on top of the unit, saves you the usual hunt under the sofa cushions. The most frequently mentioned drawback concerns the noise level at maximum setting, closer to a hair dryer than a whisper, which limits bedroom use to lower speeds or the 28 dB night mode. The second thing to accept is the price, notably higher than a comparable bladed fan, for a unit that remains just a fan, with no air purification unlike the Dyson Pure Cool range. What's left is a design object, safe for children and easy to dust, whose price is justified for anyone who values aesthetics and safety.

Rowenta VU5640F0

Check price and availability (65)

Height-adjustable and pedestal-mounted, this Rowenta Turbo Silence moves a large volume of air while staying quiet thanks to its near-silent Silent Night mode.

  • Airflow : Up to 72 m³/min in Turbo Boost position
  • Speeds : 4 speeds, 5 blades
  • Noise level : 45 dB(A), lowered in Silent Night mode
  • Near-silent Silent Night mode and a powerful Turbo Boost
The Rowenta VU5640F0 is a pedestal fan with an adjustable height to suit the room and whether you're sitting or standing. With 72 m³/min in Turbo Boost, a Silent Night mode at 45 dB(A), and automatic 120° oscillation, it effectively circulates air in a living room or spacious bedroom, backed by Rowenta's well-known reliability.
With more than 20,500 reviews and a 4.6/5 rating, the Rowenta VU5640F0 is one of the most popular fans on the French market, and our hands-on experience confirms that popularity. Silent Night mode delivers on its promise: at low speed, the unit fades into the background in a bedroom, making it a safe bet for the hottest summer nights. Turbo Boost mode, by contrast, delivers real force capable of cooling an entire living room within minutes. The adjustable height and automatic 120° oscillation make positioning easy, whether seated or standing. Assembling the pedestal, done in a few minutes without tools, poses no difficulty at all. The main drawback is the lack of a remote control on this model: all settings are made from the panel on the mast, which means getting up to adjust them, unlike the successor model VU5650, which includes one. Build quality nonetheless remains a consistent strength at Rowenta, backed by a 15-year repairability commitment that's reassuring for the unit's long-term lifespan.

IV - Ceiling fan

Mounted on the ceiling, it moves air throughout a room continuously and discreetly, without taking up any floor space. A longer-term investment, often reversible for winter use.

Westinghouse Lighting Bendan 7255740

Check price and availability (43)

A 132 cm ceiling fan with an included remote control: it circulates air in a large room all year round, without taking up an inch of floor space.

  • Diameter : 132 cm (52 inches), 5 wenge-finish blades, satin chrome housing
  • Speeds : 3 speeds, remote-controlled
  • Power supply : Mains, 60W motor
  • Neat satin chrome finish, R7s bulb included
The Westinghouse Lighting Bendan ceiling fan installs in place of a standard ceiling light and circulates a room's air continuously and quietly. Its 5 reversible blades, controlled by remote, allow year-round use in both summer and winter, with an included 80W R7s bulb, for a more durable investment than a portable fan, at the cost of a fixed installation.
With a 4.5/5 rating across more than 7,500 reviews, the Westinghouse Bendan is one of the sturdiest ceiling fans in our lineup. The first thing that stands out on arrival is the finish, a satin chrome housing and wenge-finish blades that look more refined than the average model at this price point. Operation stays discreet on the first two speeds, and only the maximum setting becomes audible, which is normal for a 132 cm diameter moving that much air. The remote, with its summer/winter reversal switch, genuinely simplifies the seasonal change, without having to flip a switch on the motor housing. The included R7s bulb avoids the unpleasant surprise of a ceiling fixture with no light at purchase, a detail many competitors overlook. The most commonly cited drawback concerns installation: the fixed extension rod complicates mounting on a very high or very low ceiling, and hiring an electrician is preferable if there isn't already a mounting point in place. An excellent value for durably equipping a large living room.

Farelek Bali

Check price and availability (24)

A reversible ceiling fan with a built-in E27 light: it cools in summer and redistributes warmth in winter, all year round.

  • Diameter : 107 cm, 4 reversible blades in FSC-certified MDF
  • Speeds : 3 speeds, 130 / 165 / 200 rpm, pull-chain control
  • Power supply : 230V mains, 50W motor
  • Very quiet operation, widely praised, reversible for summer and winter use
The Farelek Bali ceiling fan combines air circulation with an E27 light socket, both controlled separately via a 3-speed pull chain. Its 4 reversible MDF blades allow year-round use in both summer and winter, and its 107 cm diameter suits a room of about 20 m², as a direct replacement for an existing ceiling light. No remote control is included as standard (available as an optional accessory).
We tracked a large number of buyer reviews for this Farelek Bali, a long-standing classic in ceiling fans sold for years: the point that comes up most often is how quiet it runs, to the point that several users bought a second unit for another room after a successful first try. Installation, doable in a little over an hour by an experienced DIYer, poses no particular difficulty as long as the ceiling is concrete and suited to the included mounting plate. The reversible function delivers on its promise in both summer and winter, a real plus for spreading the cost of the purchase over the whole year. The one recurring complaint concerns the remote control: contrary to what the product listing suggests on some retail sites, the unit is only controlled via the standard pull chain, with the dedicated Farelek remote sold separately. At this price and for this level of quiet operation, the Bali remains a safe bet for a living room or bedroom.

V - Related questions

For a desk or a small room, a table fan or a mini USB fan is more than enough. For a whole living room (lounge, spacious bedroom), choose a more powerful pedestal or tower fan. A ceiling fan is ideal as a permanent installation, especially in a room where you want discreet air movement all year round.

No: a fan does not lower the room's temperature, it simply moves the air, which speeds up the evaporation of sweat and creates a feeling of coolness. For an actual temperature drop, look at an air conditioner or an evaporative air cooler, available in our Air Conditioners category.
