In detail: Levoit Classic 300S
The Levoit Classic 300S stands out as one of the most popular ultrasonic humidifiers on the market, part of the Classic line-up that built Levoit's reputation on home comfort appliances. Unlike evaporative humidifiers, ultrasonic technology produces a fine, quiet cool mist, with no wick to replace and no filter to change.
Its 6-litre tank, one of the most generous in its category, offers up to 60 hours of runtime on the lowest setting, enough to cover several nights without a refill. Levoit recommends a coverage of 20 to 47 m², comfortably suiting a medium-sized bedroom, living room or home office. Filling happens from the top, through a wide opening that makes both refilling and cleaning easier, a genuine time-saver compared with units that need flipping over the sink.
The built-in humidity sensor is at the heart of auto mode: it measures the surrounding humidity in real time and adjusts mist output on its own to hit a target between 40 and 50%, or a custom setting via the VeSync app. The app also allows scheduling, remote humidity tracking and voice control through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility (2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection only).
The Classic 300S also stands out for its built-in aromatherapy function: a dedicated pad lets you add a few drops of essential oil to be diffused alongside the mist, without a separate diffuser. An optional night light, adjustable across two brightness levels, rounds out the unit for night-time use in a child's or adult's bedroom. Noise stays contained too, up to 30 dB(A) maximum and about 26 dB on the quietest setting, well suited to overnight use.
On the maintenance side, the semi-transparent tank makes it easy to keep an eye on the water level, but it does need regular descaling if your tap water is hard, a trait shared by most ultrasonic humidifiers. An automatic shut-off protects the unit once the tank runs dry. Supplied with aromatherapy pads and backed by a 2-year manufacturer warranty, the Classic 300S remains a safe bet for anyone after a humidifier with generous runtime, quiet operation and smart connectivity.

Comparison
Around £80 to £90, the Levoit Classic 300S regularly comes up against the Dreo HM713S and the Xiaomi Smart Humidifier 2 in searches like "Levoit Classic 300S vs Dreo" or "Levoit vs Xiaomi humidifier". Here is how the three compare, based on each manufacturer's published specifications.
| Criterion | Levoit Classic 300S | Dreo HM713S | Xiaomi Smart Humidifier 2 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tank capacity | 6 litres | 6 litres | 4.5 litres |
| Runtime | Up to 60h | Up to 60h | Up to 32h |
| Noise level | 26 dB on quiet mode | 28 dB | 38 dB maximum |
| Warm mist | No (cool mist only) | Yes (warm and cool mist) | No (cool mist only) |
| Aromatherapy | Yes, aroma pad included | Yes, aroma diffuser | No |
| Standout feature | VeSync app, Alexa and Google Assistant | Optional warm mist, Dreo app | UV-C water sterilisation |
The Dreo HM713S rivals it on capacity and runtime, with one extra trick: warm mist, useful in winter for added comfort. The Xiaomi Smart Humidifier 2 leans on UV-C water sterilisation before diffusion, an appealing hygiene angle, but with a smaller tank and a higher noise level. The Classic 300S keeps the edge on runtime, quiet operation and built-in aromatherapy, for everyday use in a bedroom or living room.

Our tester's verdict: Christophe Delpuech
I set the Classic 300S up in a bedroom of about 18 m², and it held up well over several weeks: the 6-litre tank comfortably covers a couple of nights without a refill, even on the medium setting. The top-fill design genuinely changes daily use for the better, no more flipping the unit over the sink or risking a spill when putting it back down. Auto mode does its job well too: mist output adjusts itself against the measured humidity, without ever drying the room out or over-saturating it. The aromatherapy pad is a real plus in the evening, a few drops of essential oil are enough to lightly scent the room alongside the mist. Two things worth knowing before buying: the smoked tank, while practical, shows limescale marks fairly quickly if your tap water is hard, so regular descaling with white vinegar is needed. And the VeSync app, while full-featured, is limited to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which took a bit of patience to get connected the first time. For a medium-sized bedroom or living room, it remains one of the most complete humidifiers in its category.
Frequently asked questions: Levoit Classic 300S
Thanks to its 6-litre tank, the Classic 300S runs for up to 60 hours continuously on the lowest setting, enough for several nights without a refill. Runtime naturally drops with a higher mist output or continuous aromatherapy use.
No, the Classic 300S only produces cool mist via ultrasonic technology. For a humidifier combining warm and cool mist, Levoit offers other models in its range, such as the LV600S.
A built-in humidity sensor measures the room's humidity in real time and adjusts mist output on its own to reach a target level, 40 to 50% by default, customisable from the VeSync app.
Yes, the unit includes a dedicated aromatherapy pad: a few drops of essential oil are enough to lightly scent the room alongside the mist, with no separate diffuser needed.
As with any ultrasonic humidifier, regular descaling with white vinegar is recommended if your tap water is hard, to avoid white deposits on the tank and the transducer.
Yes, the essential controls remain accessible directly on the unit's touch panel. Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only) is only needed for the VeSync app and voice control via Alexa or Google Assistant.
