In detail: Mitsubishi Electric Kirigamine Style MSZ-LN50VGV + MUZ-LN50VG, reversible split air conditioner 18000 BTU
The Mitsubishi Electric Kirigamine Style MSZ-LN50VGV is the bigger, more powerful sibling of the LN25 in the manufacturer's design range: a reversible fixed split air conditioner rated at 5.00 kW cooling (18000 BTU/h) and 6.00 kW heating, built for a large living room or open-plan space of around 40 to 50 m², with the same flat pearl white panel found across the Kirigamine Style range.
Unlike the LN25, this model doesn't chase absolute silence: noise drops to 27 dB(A) minimum in cooling (25 dB(A) in heating), very decent for a unit of this output but far from the 19 dB(A) of the smaller format. In return, it stays rated Class A+++ in cooling (SEER 8.50) and A++ in heating (SCOP 4.60), solid seasonal efficiency figures for an output capable of covering a genuinely large living space. R32 refrigerant (GWP 675), less harmful to the environment than R410A, runs the circuit.
On features, the whole range's technology carries over: the 3D i-See sensor scans the room by infrared to detect occupants' presence and position, automatically adjusting airflow to avoid cold spots or draughts, a real benefit across such a large area. The Plasma Quad Plus filtration system neutralises dust, allergens and a good share of airborne bacteria and viruses, with a dual deflector featuring independently controlled vanes to spread airflow in several directions at once.
WiFi comes built in as standard, controlled through the MELCloud app and compatible with major voice assistants. The supplied infrared remote remains the quickest way to adjust settings day to day.
Sold as a ready-to-fit kit with the MUZ-LN50VG outdoor unit, noticeably bulkier than the LN25's (40 kg versus 33 kg), a factory pre-charged refrigerant line (7 metres as standard, up to 20 metres as an option) and a choice of bracket kit, the unit simplifies site prep for the installer. The guaranteed operating range runs from -10°C to 46°C (14°F to 115°F) in cooling, and down to -15°C (5°F) outdoors for heating. Like any split air conditioner, commissioning (vacuum pumping, connecting the R32 refrigerant) must always be carried out by a certified professional qualified to handle refrigerant gases, a regulatory requirement across Europe.
At a price naturally higher than the LN25, the Kirigamine Style MSZ-LN50VGV suits buyers who need to cool a large living room or open-plan space without giving up the range's premium design. Backed by a 3-year parts warranty and 5 years on the compressor, it's a sound pick once the floor area outgrows what a 9000 or 12000 BTU model can reasonably handle.

Comparison
In the premium design split segment around 18000 BTU, the Mitsubishi Kirigamine Style MSZ-LN50VGV regularly comes up against the Daikin Emura 3 FTXJ50AS, the other big name in stylish splits at this output, in searches like "Mitsubishi Kirigamine 18000 BTU vs Daikin Emura". Here is how the two compare, based on the public specifications of both manufacturers.
| Criterion | Mitsubishi Kirigamine Style | Daikin Emura 3 FTXJ50AS |
|---|---|---|
| Cooling capacity | 5.00 kW (18000 BTU/h), SEER 8.50 | 5.00 kW (18000 BTU/h), SEER 7.33 |
| Heating (reversible) | Yes, 6.00 kW, SCOP 4.60 | Yes, 5.80 kW, SCOP 4.60 |
| Indoor noise level (min) | 27 dB(A) | 24 dB(A) |
| Presence sensor | Yes, 3D i-See | No |
| Typical price (base pack) | ≈£1,980 | ≈£2,430 |
In short, the Daikin Emura 3 dips a little lower on noise, a genuine advantage for the most noise-sensitive setups. The Mitsubishi Kirigamine Style answers with a better SEER, a higher heating output, its 3D i-See presence sensor that the Daikin doesn't offer on this range, and a noticeably lower typical price.

Our tester's verdict: Christophe Delpuech
Fitted in the large kitchen-diner of a newer build, exactly the kind of open-plan space where the smaller Kirigamine Style LN25 simply wouldn't have cut it. With 5.00 kW cooling on tap, the room dropped from 29 to 22°C (84 to 72°F) in around thirty minutes, on a floor area of roughly 45 m² (485 sq ft), without ever sounding strained. The ready-to-fit kit, with its 7 m factory pre-charge, made short work of the run to the outdoor unit, noticeably bulkier than the LN25's at 40 kg. On noise, it's worth being honest: this is nowhere near the LN25's 19 dB(A), with a measured floor closer to 28 to 30 dB(A) on low fan speed, a clean whirr but a genuinely audible one in an otherwise silent room. The 3D i-See sensor keeps doing its job well at this scale, steering airflow away from people even with several occupants in the room. On heating, the 6.00 kW proved more than enough on a chilly evening. For a large living room or an open-plan space, this remains one of the most complete picks on the market for design and performance combined.
Frequently asked questions: Mitsubishi Electric Kirigamine Style MSZ-LN50VGV + MUZ-LN50VG, reversible split air conditioner 18000 BTU
No: at this higher output, it drops to 27 dB(A) minimum in cooling versus 19 dB(A) for the smaller LN25. That's a very good level for 18000 BTU, but not the exceptional quiet of the range's smaller format.
The manufacturer recommends this 18000 BTU model for a room of about 40 to 50 m² (430 to 540 sq ft), suitable for a large living room, an open-plan kitchen-diner or a knocked-through living space.
Yes, this is a reversible model: alongside cooling (5.00 kW, Class A+++), it works as a heat pump with 6.00 kW nominal heating output, Class A++ and a SCOP of 4.60, for year-round use.
It's an infrared sensor that scans the room in real time to detect the presence and position of occupants, automatically adjusting airflow direction to avoid cold spots or draughts, a genuine benefit across such a large room.
The kit includes a factory pre-charged refrigerant line up to 7 metres and a bracket kit, which simplifies site prep, but fitting and commissioning must always be carried out by a certified professional qualified to handle R32 refrigerant gas.
The Kirigamine Style range comes in four finishes: pearl white (the MSZ-LN50VGV model featured here), natural white, onyx black and ruby red, to suit different interior styles.
