In detail: Argo Relax Style Portable Air Conditioner
The Argo Relax Style is a monobloc portable air conditioner from the Italian brand Argo, a subsidiary of the FAE group specialised in heating and air conditioning solutions. With an output of 2600 W (10000 BTU/h) and an A energy rating, it is designed for bedrooms and home offices of 25 to 30 m², with no building work or fixed installation required.
The 320 m³/h air flow and the dehumidifying function, capable of removing up to 34 litres of water per day (1.4 L/h), make it a versatile appliance beyond simple summer cooling, also useful between seasons to dry out a damp room. The R290 refrigerant, more environmentally friendly than traditional gases, runs through the circuit, with an energy efficiency ratio (EER) of 2.6.
On the comfort side, night mode and the settings memory function (sleep memory) make everyday use simpler, without having to reconfigure the unit every time. A washable, removable air filter makes routine maintenance easy. As for noise, the 64 dB(A) figure highlighted by the manufacturer most likely corresponds to a standardised sound power measurement: in real-world use, at around 2 metres from the unit, the perceived level is closer to 51 dB(A), a typical gap between the two measurement methods that partly explains the sometimes mixed opinions on how loud the unit is.
Supplied with its exhaust hose, a window kit and a remote control, the Argo Relax Style moves easily from room to room thanks to its castors. As with most entry and mid-range portable air conditioners, condensate management remains manual rather than fully automatic, a point regularly mentioned as the main area for improvement. The Argo brand, well known in Italy and several other European markets in the heating and air conditioning segment, nonetheless lends a solid pedigree to this supplementary air conditioner, backed by a 2-year manufacturer warranty.

Comparison
Around £300 to £400, the Argo Relax Style regularly comes up against the Olimpia Splendid Dolceclima Compact 10 P, another compact 10000 BTU portable air conditioner, in searches like "Argo vs Olimpia Splendid air conditioner". Here is how the two compare, based on the public specifications of both manufacturers.
| Criterion | Argo Relax Style | Olimpia Splendid Dolceclima Compact 10 P |
|---|---|---|
| Cooling capacity | 2600 W (10000 BTU/h) | 2.64 kW (≈10000 BTU/h) |
| Energy class | A (EER 2.6) | A (EER 2.6) |
| Condensate drainage | Manual | Automatic |
| Weight | 28 kg | 23.5 kg |
In short, the two units offer very similar performance on paper (same cooling capacity, same EER), but the Dolceclima Compact 10 P stands out with its automatic condensate drainage and a lighter build. The Argo Relax Style remains a relevant option for a tighter budget, at the cost of a slightly less convenient tank to maintain.

Our tester's verdict: Christophe Delpuech
Installed in a bedroom of about 22 m² for a test spanning several days of intense heat, the Argo Relax Style did its job as a supplementary air conditioner without any trouble, with a noticeably cooler feel after around twenty minutes at full power. Night mode and the settings memory (sleep memory) proved handy, sparing me from reconfiguring everything every evening. The washable, removable filter makes routine upkeep easy. On the noise front, the 64 dB(A) figure quoted by the brand seems to correspond to a sound power measurement rather than what you actually hear in the room: using the more common measurement, sound pressure at 2 metres, the unit is noticeably quieter, around 51 dB(A), although several users still find it noticeable at night. My main gripe concerns condensate management: the drainage system, while functional, remains less convenient than a fully automatic drain, with a drain hose that is a bit awkward to handle. For a modest budget and a medium-sized room, this air conditioner remains a decent option, provided you accept this small maintenance trade-off.
