Engel SB30F

The Engel SB30F, manufacturer reference SB30F-N-W, takes a radically different shape from the Austrian brand's usual portable coolers: it is a 30-litre drawer, designed to be built in horizontally into a cabinet, worktop or bulkhead in a van, boat or motorhome. The compressor unit, an Engel oscillating model known for being unaffected by vibration and tilting, can be relocated up to 1.5 metres away from the drawer itself, letting it be tucked into a locker or under a technical floor while only a discreet front panel remains visible.

Its temperature range, continuously adjustable from +10°C to -8°C, is narrower than the classic MT45F or MR-040F coolers in the range, but stays consistent with its main purpose: an everyday fridge capable of dropping below 0°C for frozen goods, without aiming for the -18°C of dedicated freezers. Power supply is strictly 12V or 24V DC, designed for a direct connection to the vehicle or boat battery: unlike other Engel models, there is no built-in 230V socket, worth planning for if you need to run it at a hook-up or at home.

Power draw stays low, around 32W on average (roughly 460 Wh per day at 30°C ambient), for a weight of 19 kg. The painted steel body and stainless steel runners are built for a fixed, long-lasting installation, with a low-consumption interior LED light and a stated capacity of up to 35 x 330 ml cans. Two fans handle heat exchange for the compressor unit while running.

Its limits mostly come down to its purpose: this is not a portable unit to pull out of the boot at every stop, but a built-in solution that requires a bit of installation work (cutting the cabinet, fixing, wiring the relocated unit). Once in place, it benefits from the Engel oscillating compressor's reputation for mechanical reliability and a 3-year manufacturer warranty, at a price that sits toward the upper end of custom onboard refrigeration solutions.
