I took the WAVE 3 to a mobile home with no fixed power hookup, to test its claim of running eight hours on the removable battery alone. Verdict: the Eco-mode runtime held up almost exactly as advertised, enough to cover a full night without waking up to the heat. The heating function, rare on this type of unit, came in handy the very next morning when the outside temperature dropped sharply. Control through the app, in automatic mode, adjusts power without me needing to step in. What I liked least: at full power, the noise level climbs noticeably, around 58 dB(A) measured on my phone, hard to ignore in a space as confined as a mobile home. And the budget stays substantial once the battery is added to the unit alone, an investment that only really makes sense for regular off-grid use, not occasional trips.

I took the EcoFlow Glacier on a completely off-grid weekend, no mains socket or car battery within reach, specifically to test its claimed runtime on the removable 298Wh battery. It held up well beyond my expectations, easily covering two full days between the freezer and fridge compartments, each set independently. The built-in ice maker, a first for this type of appliance, was the highlight of the trip: real ice cubes ready in under an hour, an unexpected luxury out in the bush. The dual zone, with one side down to -25°C while the other stayed in fridge mode for drinks, changed how I organised the contents. The downside: the price stays well above a classic compressor cooler of similar capacity, a gap that only really makes sense if total independence from any power source is a deciding factor for your intended use.

I took it away for a weekend in a camper van, well out of reach of any mains socket, to see if the promise of genuinely unpluggable cooling held up. With the add-on battery fitted, the unit ran for over 6 hours in Eco mode before asking for a recharge, close to the manufacturer's figure. Fast cooling isn't just marketing talk: set up in the van on a hot afternoon, the temperature dropped noticeably within minutes once the exhaust hose was fitted into the roof vent. Having no drainage to deal with at all, as long as humidity stays reasonable, genuinely simplifies life on the road. What impressed me less: the unit is still heavy and bulky for truly everyday nomadic use, nowhere near something you'd shift with one hand, and at full power the noise becomes noticeably more present than on mains-powered models.
