In detail: Whirlpool PACF29CO W, 9000 BTU class A portable air conditioner
Whirlpool rounds out its portable air conditioner range with the PACF29COW, a class A monobloc model rated at 2800W (9000 BTU), recommended by the manufacturer for rooms up to 17m², typically a bedroom or a small home office. It combines cooling, fan-only operation and dehumidifying in a single unit on castors, with no building work or fixed installation needed.
Its main distinguishing feature is the Jet function, which delivers a 5°C swing in just 10 minutes, handy for fast cooling during a heatwave. 6th Sense technology builds on this by continuously measuring room temperature and automatically switching to the most suitable operating mode, with no input needed from the user. The Around U remote control takes this a step further with its own built-in temperature sensor, adjusting the unit based on the temperature felt where you're actually sitting rather than where the air conditioner itself stands.
Night/Sleep mode caps the noise level at 60 dB(A), a decent if unremarkable figure against the quietest units on the market. The intuitive LCD display and 3 fan speeds allow fine control over comfort levels. The R290 refrigerant it uses remains one of the more environmentally friendly options currently available for this type of appliance.
With its 4 castors and a weight of 33.3kg, the PACF29COW moves reasonably easily between rooms, even if its weight sits a touch above the average for its category. A 2-year manufacturer warranty rounds out the package.
The main thing to watch is actual coverage: the 17m² claimed by Whirlpool is conservative next to other 9000 BTU models on the market, which often target 25 to 30m², so it's worth staying realistic about the size of the room you have in mind to get the most out of it.

Our tester's verdict: Christophe Delpuech
Set up in a roughly 15m² attic bedroom, the PACF29COW earned some trust straight away thanks to its Jet function: perceived temperature drops noticeably within a quarter of an hour, handy on a scorching evening when you don't want to wait before going to bed. The 6th Sense technology then takes over, adjusting operation without needing to touch the settings, and the Around U remote, with its built-in sensor, genuinely makes a difference when you're sitting away from the unit rather than right next to it. On Night mode, some noise remains but stays within a tolerable range for sleeping. Over time, the main thing to watch is the actual coverage: beyond the 17m² claimed by the manufacturer, efficiency drops off noticeably, so it's worth staying realistic about the size of the room you're targeting. Moving it between rooms stays easy thanks to the 4 castors, despite a weight of over 33kg.
Frequently asked questions: Whirlpool PACF29CO W, 9000 BTU class A portable air conditioner
The manufacturer recommends it for rooms up to 17m², typically a bedroom or a small home office. Beyond that, cooling efficiency drops off noticeably.
It delivers a 5°C temperature swing in just 10 minutes, useful for fast cooling as soon as you switch the unit on, particularly during a heatwave.
The remote control has its own built-in temperature sensor, so the unit adjusts based on the temperature felt where you're actually sitting, rather than where the air conditioner stands.
Night/Sleep mode caps the noise level at 60 dB(A), a decent but not exceptional figure compared with the quietest models on the market, which drop below 45 dB(A).
