What air conditioner power do you need?

A calculator to estimate the right air conditioning power for your room, before picking a model.

Undersizing an air conditioner is the most common mistake: the unit then runs non-stop without ever reaching the target temperature, wears out its compressor prematurely and uses more power than a properly sized model. Oversizing simply costs more upfront, for no real comfort gain.

This tool applies a sizing rule commonly used by professionals (power per square metre based on insulation, adjusted for ceiling height, sun exposure, number of occupants and heat-generating appliances), with an extra margin based on how intense heatwaves are in your region.

The result is given as a range, in kW and in BTU/h (the unit most often used on air conditioner spec sheets), followed by a selection of air conditioners from our catalogue whose power matches.

This rule remains an order of magnitude to guide a purchase, not a regulatory heat-load calculation: for a fixed installation with professional fitting, a room-by-room heat-load survey is still required.
