The Alpicool K25 is a 25-litre compressor cooler (marketed as 26.1L), fitted with an LG compressor and powered by 12V, 24V and 100-240V. Adjustable from -20°C to +20°C, it offers two operating modes: MAX for fast cooldown and ECO to save battery power. At 8.2 kg empty and under 45 dB, it holds up to 44 x 330ml cans or 22 x 550ml bottles. It is one of the most sought-after compressor coolers in its price bracket.
I tried it on a day trip along the coast, loaded up at the last minute before setting off: MAX mode brought the temperature down in just a few dozen minutes, plenty of time to finish packing the van and hit the road. Once it reached cruising temperature, I switched to ECO mode to spare the vehicle battery over the six-hour drive back, without ever worrying about a flat battery at the next start. At 8.2 kg empty, it slots easily between the front seats, a real plus for such a compact size. The LG compressor lives up to its quiet reputation, under the rated 45 dB, though I did notice a faint audible cycle at night with the engine off and total silence around the van. For occasional solo or two-person use on a tight budget, the K25 remains a safe bet.

The Alpicool Y20T is a compact 20-litre compressor cooler, able to reach down to -20°C for fridge or freezer use. Fitted with 3-level car battery protection and two power modes (MAX and ECO, under 1 kWh/day on average), it targets solo road trips, compact vans or a desk-side extra. It is an accessible reference from Alpicool, a Chinese brand heavily present on this budget segment.
I took it out for a night of stargazing, parked out in the middle of nowhere, engine off for close to ten hours with the Y20T running continuously off the 12V socket. I set battery protection to level H2 (medium), a compromise that let me keep drinks cold and part of my food frozen without ever worrying about waking up to a flat battery. The compact size, barely bigger than a passive cooler, slid easily into the boot next to my camera gear, and switching between fridge and freezer mode let me get down to -20°C to keep ice packs properly solid until the next evening. The only downside: the controls on top, barely backlit, meant digging out my head torch to adjust anything once night fell. For solo use in a car, the Y20T remains remarkably effective.

The Alpicool GE50 is a 45.3-litre compressor cooler, controllable via a mobile app and powered by 12V, 24V and 100-240V. Adjustable from -20°C to +20°C at a nominal 60W, it features tie-down slots, a cup holder and an anti-vibration system built for the road. At 13.8 kg empty, it stays easy to carry for its capacity. It succeeds the older CF45 in the Alpicool range, which has been discontinued in France.
I took it to a festival in an open field, parked well away from the stage for a whole weekend, the perfect chance to try out the remote control: from my seat at a show, I could check the temperature and tighten the setting without walking all the way back to the van. On the access track, a proper bumpy dirt road, the tie-down slots and anti-vibration system genuinely earned their keep: nothing shifted inside, not even the glass bottles wedged along the side. Temperature control between -20°C and +20°C stayed true to the settings, steady enough to keep frozen meat packs solid all weekend without watching it. The one downside: the app's Bluetooth connection dropped twice when I wandered too far, meaning a quick app restart each time. For 45 litres with this level of kit, the GE50 remains a genuinely convincing cooler out in the field.
