In detail: Coway Mighty AP-1512HH
The Coway Mighty AP-1512HH is a compact air purifier that has become a worldwide reference since its launch: it has been named best air purifier by Wirecutter, the reviews arm of the New York Times, ten years running. That status is well deserved: the unit pairs serious filtration with a generous air flow and controlled power draw, all in a footprint that stays reasonable for a bedroom, living room or home office.
Filtration happens in four stages: a washable pre-filter that catches hair and larger particles, a deodorization filter impregnated with activated carbon that absorbs cooking, smoke and volatile organic compound odours, then a genuine HEPA filter able to capture up to 99.999% of ultrafine particles (pollen, dust mites, fine particles, a good share of smoke). A switchable Vital Ion ioniser rounds out the system without releasing measurable ozone. With a purified air flow (CADR) of 421 m³/h, Coway states coverage of up to 109 m², and a 43 m² room can be cleaned in around fifteen minutes on full speed.
Control runs through a touch panel and a built-in air quality sensor, which continuously displays a coloured light ring (blue, purple, red) reflecting the state of the air. In auto mode, fan speed adjusts on its own based on detected particles, and Eco mode switches the fan off after 30 minutes with no pollution detected to save power. A timer (1, 4 or 8 hours) and a filter-wear indicator complete the unit.
On the comfort side, noise level ranges from about 24 dB(A) on minimum speed, barely perceptible, to close to 54 dB(A) on maximum speed. Power draw stays moderate, around 77 W at full output. At 5.6 kg and with compact dimensions (42.7 x 46.5 x 24.4 cm), it slots easily onto the floor or a low shelf, in a bedroom as much as a living room.
Its limitations mainly come down to its design age: no Wi-Fi connectivity or mobile app, unlike newer models, and a filter budget to plan for (roughly a year for the HEPA filter, six months for the deodorization filter). Those caveats aside, the Coway Mighty AP-1512HH remains a safe bet, certified by ECARF (Germany) and BAF Allergy UK, backed by a 3-year manufacturer warranty, and still one of the most recommended purifiers for serious everyday home use.

The Winix Zero-S brings the brand's own PlasmaWave technology but stays heavier, while the Levoit Core 300S leans on connectivity and a compact footprint, at the cost of a much lower air flow. The Coway Mighty AP-1512HH stands out with the best air flow-to-coverage ratio of the trio and a reputation built on more than a decade of recommendations from international review outlets, making it a safe choice for anyone after powerful, proven filtration above all else.

Our tester's verdict: Christophe Delpuech
We ran the Mighty AP-1512HH in a living room of about 30 m² for several weeks, sitting on the floor between the sofa and a window facing a busy street. First impression: auto mode genuinely does the job without any thought needed, speed climbs as soon as the window is opened in the morning, then eases back down within minutes once the air clears. On minimum speed the unit is nearly unnoticeable; on maximum speed, though, the airflow becomes clearly audible, best kept for occasional bursts rather than running overnight. The deodorization filter knocks down cooking smells effectively, a real plus in a living room open to the kitchen. Two drawbacks stood out after months of use: no connectivity whatsoever, you have to walk up to the unit to change a setting, and its depth, which takes up more floor space than a newer, slimmer model. For a living room or bedroom exposed to urban pollution or pollen, it still stands out as one of the most dependable purifiers we have tested, and its international reputation is clearly well earned.
Frequently asked questions: Coway Mighty AP-1512HH

The HEPA filter generally needs replacing once a year and the activated carbon deodorization filter around every 6 months, depending on use. A light indicator on the panel signals when each filter is due.
No, this model is controlled only from its local touch panel, with no mobile app or Wi-Fi connectivity, unlike newer purifiers. It is one of its few weak points against current competition.
It has been named best air purifier by Wirecutter (New York Times) ten years running, thanks to serious HEPA filtration, a generous air flow and proven long-term reliability, at a price that has stayed competitive against newer releases.
